2023 Election: Honourable Cafra Caino and Barrister Yahaya Washiri Promises Inclusive Politicking And To End Insecurity In Chikun and Kajuru If Elected As Reps.
Honourable Cafra Caino, the former chairman of Kajuru LGA, has vowed to eradicate insecurity and foster political inclusion if elected as a member of the House of Representatives in the 2023 elections. Caino made this promise during a panel discussion organized by Face To Face mobilization movement in Kaduna on Sunday, October 30, 2022. To address insecurity, Caino plans to establish strategic strike forces in some locations and empower local vigilantes, who have a better understanding of the terrain than the military or police. He also emphasized the importance of conducting town hall meetings to engage with constituents and address their concerns. Caino, a former chairman and House of Reps candidate for the (APC), pledged to replicate the positive initiatives he implemented during his tenure as Kajuru LGA chairman. He emphasized the need to ensure that everyone is included in the decision-making process. Meanwhile, Barrister Yahaya Washiri, the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), stated that if elected, he would use his position to hold the executive accountable for security matters. He highlighted the alarming situation in Chikun and Kajuru, where entire villages have been deserted due to insecurity, preventing farmers from accessing their lands. Washiri expressed skepticism about state police due to potential disadvantages but acknowledged the efforts of local vigilantes, despite their limited weaponry compared to the bandits. He attributed the prolonged banditry issue to the negligence of politicians, who overlooked the problem for their own reasons. The candidates' commitments to addressing insecurity and promoting inclusivity in the 2023 Reps election have resonated with the public, raising expectations for positive change in the region.
