Oyo Police Arrest 20-Year-Old After Suspected Human Body Part Found in Sack
Oyo State, Nigeria – February 21, 2026
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old man, Garuba Aminu, after a suspected human body part was reportedly discovered in his possession in Oyo town.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 20, 2026, around 8:00 a.m., at the Commercial Oroki area of the town.
Police said the suspect allegedly disguised himself as a scavenger, a move that initially allowed him to blend into the environment. However, residents reportedly became uneasy after noticing what they described as unusual and suspicious behavior.
Concerned community members stopped and searched the suspect, during which they allegedly found a severed lower right leg believed to be human, hidden inside a sack filled with waste plastic bottles.
Following the discovery, a joint police patrol team was deployed to the scene after receiving distress calls. Officers arrived to find an angry crowd attempting to attack the suspect.
The police said officers swiftly intervened, dispersed the mob, and rescued the suspect from possible lynching. The recovered item was secured and taken for forensic examination.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation to determine the origin of the body part and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police command commended residents for their vigilance, noting that community cooperation plays a vital role in crime prevention. However, the command warned against mob justice, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands is illegal and can obstruct proper investigation and prosecution.
Police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as the case develops.
