Islamic Movement Rejects Terrorism Allegations By Israeli Envoy In Nigeria

The Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has strongly denied allegations made by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, who accused the movement and Iran of sponsoring terrorism and instability in Nigeria and the wider West African region.

In a statement released on Friday, the forum’s president, Ammar Muhammad, described the claims as false, provocative, and an attempt to create tension among Muslims in Nigeria.

According to the group, the ambassador’s remarks were aimed at discrediting the Islamic Movement and silencing voices that support oppressed people around the world.

The statement criticised the Israeli envoy for making such accusations while Israel continues to face global criticism over its military operations in Gaza Strip.

The forum said it was inappropriate for a representative of a country accused of committing serious violations of international law to accuse others of supporting terrorism.

The group also referred to international criticism directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that the International Criminal Court has issued actions related to alleged war crimes connected to the Gaza conflict.

According to the Islamic Movement, linking the organisation to terrorism is a deliberate attempt to create division among Muslims in Nigeria.

The forum insisted that in more than five decades of its existence, the Islamic Movement has never been convicted by any court of law for terrorism or violent activity.

It stated that the organisation remains committed to promoting justice, humanitarian values, and peaceful advocacy for oppressed communities worldwide, including support for the Palestinian people.

The group urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations and remain vigilant against attempts to spread misinformation and create religious or social divisions.

Meanwhile, security presence increased in parts of Kaduna on Friday following rumours of a planned protest after Juma’at prayers.

Armed police officers were deployed to strategic areas including Station Roundabout, Stadium Roundabout, NEPA Roundabout, and the Singer area to maintain law and order.

Despite the heightened security, business activities continued in major commercial areas such as Mahmud Gumi Central Market, although transportation activities appeared reduced as some operators stayed off the roads due to concerns about possible unrest.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities peacefully.
