Gombe Governor Advocates for Constitutional Review to Address Socio-Economic Challenges** **Gombe, Nigeria

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has emphasized the importance of a constitutional review to address the political and socio-economic challenges facing the country, urging lawmakers to protect the interests of the North East region. The Governor made these remarks during a meeting with the Senate Committee on the 1999 Constitution Review for the North East Zone, led by Chairman Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje. The committee paid a visit to Governor Yahaya's office in Gombe. Governor Yahaya described the constitutional review process as "a very important national assignment" and commended the committee for choosing Gombe State as the venue for the zonal public hearing. He expressed that Gombe holds a central position in the North East sub-region and the friendship among the people of the region dates back to the pre-colonial era. "Our Constitution is not made of cast iron or steel; it is something that we the Nigerian people can reconstruct as human beings," the Governor stated. "There are so many positive and negative things we need to change because nobody is perfect. From the day the Constitution was framed to this moment, there must definitely be changes. Developments have occurred, and there should be reasons for the nation to effect changes so that the citizens can live better and we can progress as a nation." Governor Yahaya expressed confidence that the lawmakers will represent the interests of the North East zone effectively at the national level and ensure that their submissions are considered in the final constitutional amendment. The committee's visit to Gombe State reflects the importance of ensuring inclusivity and diverse perspectives in the constitutional review process. The North East region, like other parts of Nigeria, faces unique challenges and opportunities, and it is essential that the concerns and aspirations of the people of this region are adequately addressed in the ongoing constitutional review.
