Several Residents Killed, Others Kidnapped As Bandits Attack Kaduna Community At Night
Suspected bandits have carried out a deadly overnight attack on a community in Makarfi, leaving several residents dead and others abducted.
The attack reportedly took place on Sunday night in Makarfi Local Government Area, near Zaria. Armed men stormed the community, firing gunshots and forcing residents to flee their homes in panic.
Videos circulating on social media captured moments of chaos as terrified villagers ran in different directions while gunshots echoed throughout the area.
One of the videos was shared on X by Nuhu Sada, a candidate of the Social Democratic Party for the Kaduna State House of Assembly. He described the incident as a horrifying night for the affected community.
In one of his posts, Sada wrote that a young boy witnessed the kidnapping of his grandmother during the attack, raising concerns about the safety of residents in northern Nigeria.
Another video shared earlier suggested that the raid was still ongoing when the footage was recorded. Residents could be heard screaming while others rushed to find safety as gunshots continued.
One disturbing clip featured a young boy explaining how the attackers invaded his family’s home. According to him, the gunmen demanded mobile phones before assaulting members of the household.
The boy said his grandmother instructed him to hand over their phones to the attackers, but the criminals still assaulted some of the women in the house and eventually abducted his grandmother.
He also revealed that the attackers fled through the Tashan Maliki area after carrying out the raid.
Other videos from the scene showed frightened residents shouting warnings and urging others to stay indoors while the gunmen continued firing shots in the area.
As of the time of this report, the exact number of people killed or kidnapped during the attack has not been officially confirmed.
Kaduna State has experienced repeated bandit attacks in recent years, especially in rural communities where residents often complain about limited security presence.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone were not answered and a message sent to him had not received a response at the time of filing this report.
