Abia Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue 18-Year-Old Girl

The Abia State Police Command has reportedly arrested three men suspected of involvement in kidnapping and rescued an 18-year-old girl in Umuimo Community, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.

According to the police, the operation followed a distress call received by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on October 4, 2026. An unidentified caller had allegedly contacted the victim’s mother, Mrs Obinna, demanding ₦5 million for her daughter’s release.

The police said the information prompted an intelligence-led investigation to locate the missing teenager and track down those allegedly responsible for her abduction.

The suspects were identified as Chidozie Rainbow Hezekiah, 65; Brave Rainbow, 21; and Innocent Otodirichu, 21. Officers reportedly arrested the three men in Umuimo Community, where the missing girl was also found and rescued.

During the operation, police said they recovered two daggers and the victim’s mobile phone. Investigators are continuing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities.

He emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering and collaboration between security agencies and local communities in addressing security challenges.

The police also appealed to residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements or activities that could threaten public safety. Members of the public were encouraged to provide credible information to the nearest police station to support crime prevention and the arrest of suspects.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have connections to the alleged kidnapping operation.

The three arrested men remain suspects, and the allegations against them have yet to be established in court.
