Nigerian Army Reportedly Arrestes Yobe Politician Over Alleged Iswap Logistics Support, Bribery

Security sources have disclosed that troops arrested several suspects in Kanamma who were reportedly being processed for further questioning when politician Mai Salati allegedly intervened.

According to the sources, Mai Salati was accused of offering money to military personnel in an attempt to have the suspects released. The soldiers reportedly rejected the alleged offer and subsequently took him into custody.

The detained suspects were later reportedly transferred from Damaturu to Maiduguri for additional interrogation and investigation.

Security officials also rejected claims on social media suggesting that Mai Salati’s arrest was politically motivated or connected to his reported move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The sources said the investigation instead concerns alleged terrorism-related activities, including an attempt to interfere with the detention of individuals suspected of providing logistical support to ISWAP.

The suspects are expected to undergo further questioning in Maiduguri as investigators work to determine whether they have any links to terrorist networks. Authorities will decide on possible legal action based on the outcome of the investigation.

Security officials said disrupting logistics and supply channels remains a key component of counter-terrorism efforts, as armed groups depend on supplies such as food, fuel, weapons, funds and communication equipment.

The development comes amid continued intelligence-based operations by security agencies targeting terrorist groups and their support networks across the North-East.

Mai Salati and the other suspects remain under investigation, and the allegations against them have not been proven in court.
