President Biden ask Congress to Pass the historical Lesbians, Gay bill swiftly

Biden Urges Congress to Pass Equality Act, Protecting LGBTQ+ Rights** WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden has called on Congress to swiftly pass the Equality Act, a landmark legislation that would provide comprehensive federal civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Americans. In a message posted on his Twitter account, Biden wrote, "The Equality Act provides long overdue federal civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Americans, preventing discrimination in public services and lending systems. I urge Congress to swiftly pass this historical legislation." The Equality Act would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity in areas such as employment, housing, credit, jury service, and public accommodations. It would also prohibit discrimination in federally funded programs and activities. Biden has made LGBTQ+ rights a priority since taking office. In January, he signed an executive order reversing a Trump-era policy that barred transgender people from serving in the military. He also nominated Pete Buttigieg, who is openly gay, to be Secretary of Transportation, making him the first LGBTQ+ Cabinet member in U.S. history. The Equality Act has been passed by the House of Representatives but has stalled in the Senate. Biden's call for Congress to pass the bill is a sign that he is committed to advancing LGBTQ+ rights and ensuring that all Americans are treated equally under the law.
