President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the National Security Summit report submission ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, expressing gratitude for Nigeria's continued unity despite challenges that could have caused division. He emphasized the importance of allowing people to select their desired leaders and leaders' duty to respect their citizens, irrespective of political affiliation or religious beliefs. The report was presented by a team of House members led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. President Buhari urged leaders from the highest to the lowest to show respect for the people, stressing that "it will be a duty for the people to pay back to the leadership." He further explained that such respect involves enabling citizens to choose their leaders freely, regardless of religious or party affiliations. President Buhari acknowledged the immense public support he received during his 2019 election campaign, especially the large crowds of people who enthusiastically met him in all 36 states. He expressed his wonder at this genuine admiration and questioned why Nigerians accept him despite his lack of wealth. The President commended the 9th National Assembly for their cooperation with the Executive arm, contrasting it with his experience with the 8th Assembly and expressing his desire for a similar collaboration for the nation's progress. In response, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila thanked President Buhari for endorsing the security summit pilot initiated by the House. He acknowledged the President's involvement from the inception and his intention to declare it open, which was hindered by his busy schedule.
