PDP Rejects Ndume's Claim, Insists on Electronic Transmission of Results Nationwide
Electoral transmission of results PDP faults Ndume’s claim
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly objected to a statement made by Senator Ali Ndume, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in which he claimed that electronic transmission of results would not be feasible in the Northern part of the country. Reacting to Ndume's remark, PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan stated that the main opposition party would not engage in North-South debates, adding that the interest of the entire country is paramount to the PDP. "The statement by Senator Ndume is unfortunate and incorrect. Electronic transmission of results will work in any part of the country for reasons that are already known," Ologbondiyan asserted. However, the PDP's Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi, took a more critical stance, questioning Ndume's intentions and suggesting that he may be planning to rig the general elections in the North. "What is Ndume planning to do? He said 'what they know is that, the results can be transmitted anywhere, that it is even possible to make telephone calls. That the Senator may probably not be aware of the technological advancement that happen in the last couple of years by the Nigerian Communication Commission and even the telecom companies," Odeyemi stated. "To guard against rigging, Nigerians want results transmitted electronically. Is Ndume planning to rig?" he asked rhetorically. The PDP's strong response to Ndume's statement highlights the growing tension between the two major political parties in Nigeria as the 2023 general elections approach. The issue of electronic transmission of results has become a contentious one, with some arguing that it is necessary to prevent rigging and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
