PDP G5 Group Pledges Support for Tinubu's Re-election in 2027

In a surprising turn of events, the Integrity Group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in the 2027 presidential election. The group, which comprises five governors who worked against the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general election, made the declaration at a luncheon hosted by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt. Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, a prominent member of the Integrity Group, stated that the group has no regrets about supporting Tinubu in the 2023 election and will continue to back him in the future. He expressed confidence that President Tinubu will address the security, economic, and other challenges currently plaguing Nigeria. The Integrity Group, also known as the G5, includes Governor Wike, Governor Ortom, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu). The group gained national attention for its opposition to the PDP leadership and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 presidential campaign. Governor Wike, who is considered the leader of the G5, has been vocal in his criticism of the PDP and has accused the party of marginalizing the southern region of the country. The group's decision to support President Tinubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is seen as a significant political development and could have implications for the 2027 presidential race. The announcement of the G5's support for Tinubu has elicited mixed reactions from political analysts and members of the public. Some believe that the move could strengthen President Tinubu's chances of re-election, while others question the motives of the G5 governors and their commitment to the principles they have espoused in the past. As the 2027 presidential election draws closer, the political landscape in Nigeria is likely to undergo significant shifts and realignments. The declaration of support for President Tinubu by the G5 group is just one indication of the fluid and unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics.
