BREAKING: Hundreds Stranded After Train Collision on Kaduna–Abuja Railway

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded on Monday morning after a train traveling from Kaduna to Abuja collided with another train along the rail corridor.

The incident happened during the early morning rush hour, raising serious concerns about safety procedures and signaling systems on one of Nigeria’s busiest railway routes.

According to passengers on board, the train had departed Kaduna on schedule but later encountered another train on the same track. The collision reportedly caused a sudden and violent jolt, forcing both trains to stop immediately.

One passenger described the moment of impact, saying the train was moving normally before a loud bang was heard and the train suddenly braked.

Another passenger, Sada Malumfashi, said several people were thrown from their seats due to the sudden stop, leaving some passengers injured and bleeding.

Following the crash, train operations on the route were temporarily disrupted, leaving many passengers stranded along the track.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has not yet released an official statement on the number of casualties. However, early reports suggest there were injuries and damage to the front sections of the trains, though no deaths had been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Emergency responders and security personnel were quickly deployed to the scene to assist passengers and secure the area.

The incident has also raised questions about the railway’s digital signaling system, which is designed to prevent two trains from occupying the same section of track at the same time.

Experts say such collisions could result from communication failures between train operators and the control center or a malfunction in the signaling equipment.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident as passengers await further updates.
