Terrorists Attack Kwara Community, Kill Three Residents Near Kogi Border
At least three people have been killed following a fresh attack by suspected bandits in a community in Kwara State, close to the border with Kogi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening in the Koro area of Ekiti Local Government Area, a region that lies between Koro-Ekiti and Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Local sources disclosed that the victims were members of the Kemberi community who were ambushed by heavily armed attackers. Three residents were confirmed dead, while many others narrowly escaped by fleeing into nearby bushes during the assault.
Earlier in the day, residents had reported hearing sporadic gunshots between Koro and Eruku, raising fears of an imminent attack. Those fears were later confirmed when the assailants struck under the cover of darkness.
Community members have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area, alleging that Ogbe Forest has become a major hideout for criminal groups operating along the Kwara–Kogi axis. According to residents, the forest provides easy cover for attackers to strike settlements and retreat without resistance.
The latest killings add to rising insecurity across parts of Kwara South and neighboring communities in Kogi State, where residents have repeatedly appealed to both state and federal authorities to strengthen security presence and protect lives.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in both states had not issued an official statement on the incident.
